Slip Disc
What is a Slip Disc?
A “slip disc,” more accurately called a herniated disc, occurs when one of the soft, cushion-like discs between your spinal vertebrae pushes out. These discs act as shock absorbers for your spine. When the tough outer layer tears, the jelly-like center can bulge or leak out, pressing on nearby spinal nerves. This nerve compression is what causes the intense pain and other symptoms associated with the condition. It can happen in any part of the spine but is most common in the lower back (lumbar) and neck (cervical).
Don’t let nerve pain dictate your life. Dr. Jitendra Kumar Nagar is a leading expert in treating slip discs, using his extensive practical experience to find the most effective and least invasive solution for you.
Symptoms of a Slip Disc
The most tell-tale symptom of a herniated disc is pain that starts in one area (like the lower back or neck) and then radiates to other parts of your body. If the slip disc is in your lower back, you will likely feel a sharp, burning, or shooting pain that travels down your buttock and into your leg, often reaching the calf or foot—this is commonly known as sciatica. If the disc is in your neck, this pain will typically travel down your shoulder and into your arm and fingers.
